I saw a man buried today. It was a military burial, and very moving. They made a ceremony of seven men, pall bearing the casket, firing 21 gun salute, playing taps and folding the flag and presenting it to the widow. It probably lasted twenty minutes and was a nice and fitting tribute, to a find upstanding christian man.
They spent twenty minutes Honoring this man for his service to his country, for his active engagement in war, and for his sacrifices. He well deserved that, and it was a fitting honor. But to reduce what he did to a twenty minute ceremony, and a prayer?
Is this what we have reduced God to? It seems so familiar somehow. A twenty minute sermon if you are lucky, a couple of songs, and an amen! Is this all that we have for God?
We should have God up front, out front and in complete focus at all times. We should not only honor him with our prayers, presence, gifts, and services, but with our whole lives every minute of every day. Wouldn't that be HONORABLE?
